Yerkes Observatory Dome Shutter Access

M3 is developing a conceptual design solution to facilitate safe and reliable access to the dome’s shutter and pulley system for routine maintenance.

Yerkes Observatory, located in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, was established in 1892 and is home to the world’s largest refracting telescope, featuring a 40-inch aperture.

To support the design effort, M3 performed detailed 3D laser scans of the structure to generate a precise 3D building model, which serves as the foundation for evaluating and visualizing proposed access concepts.
