It is important to follow certain indications to avoid infecting, getting infected and taking care of our loved ones who are a part of high-risk groups, which are:

  • Seniors
  • People living in a home for seniors or a facility for long-term care
  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • People with a compromised immune system (weak immune system) due to solid organ transplant
  • Obesity (a BMI of 30 or higher)
  • Sever heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary disease or cardiomyopathy
  • Sickle cells
  • Type 2 diabetes

According to what is known so far, people with the following diseases might have a higher risk of becoming severely ill due to COVID-19:

  • Asthma (moderate to severe)
  • Cerebrovascular illness (affecting blood vessels and the pumping of blood to the brain)
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • High blood pressure
  • People with compromised immune systems due to bone marrow transplants, immune deficiency, HIV, corticosteroids, or the use of any other medication that might weaken the immune system
  • Neurological disease, such as dementia
  • Liver disease
  • Pregnancy
  • Pulmonary fibrosis (damaged or scarred lung tissue)
  • Smoking
  • Thalassemia (a blood disease)
  • Type 1 diabetes

Preemptive measures

  • Sleeping in separate beds
  • Using different restrooms if possible and disinfecting them after using them
  • Not sharing towels, cutlery, cups, etc.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting high-contact surfaces
  • Washing sheets and towels very often
  • Keeping a safe distance and sleeping in separate rooms
  • Calling the designated phone number in case o a fever higher than 38° or if there is any difficulty breathing
  • Separating all the hazardous waste, masks, gloves and paper with the letters RPBI
